Quarterly BAS
Most businesses submit quarterly, and the 1 January – 31 March 2009 (Quarter 3) BAS is due 28 April 09 for lodgment and payment with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

<img class="right"src="http://www.yo2go.com/gold_coast_mobile_bookkeeping/BAS-forms-telephone-support.jpg" alt="telephone support to help with BAS lodgment"title="telephone support to help with BAS lodgment" />A new client contacted us out of desperation. Struggling to prepare all the documentation for the Business Activity Statement, she could not get the figures to balance.

We suggested she email us the MYOB data file, so that we could get a clearer understanding of where she was at with her bookwork. <a href="http://ormeaubookkeeping.com.au/contact-us/"title="Contact our team of MYOB / Quickbooks professional contract bookkeepers, Ormeau, Yatala, Coomera, Eagleby and Beenleigh,South East Queensland, Australia">Contact us for HELP with your BAS

“I had trouble with my MYOB files and contacted Carol and her team and they were just excellent.
They listened and then explained what they could do to help.
Everything was done speedily, efficiently and most of all cost effectively.
They emailed me how to send my files and worked on them that day!
Most of all “they listen” and don’t treat you like a dummy!
It got me out of a potentially tricky situation and literally saved the day!
Thanks Carol.

Monthly BAS
If your business submits the (BAS) Business Activity Statement monthly, then 21 March 09 was the due date for lodgement and payment of the February 2009 monthly activity statements

Superannuation Guarantee Contributions
Also on that date are due the Quarter 3 Superannuation guarantee contributions (1 January -31 March) contributions to be made to the fund by this date.

Bookkeeping records the flow of money in and money coming out of your business. A fundamental factor of any healthy small businesses in and around Ormeau, Yatala, Coomera, Eagleby and Beenleigh, South Brisbane, Australia, is whether there is more money flowing in, than is flowing out.
<img class="alignright"src=" http://bookkeepingbrisbane.com.au/brisbane-bookeeping/Aussie-currency-calculator.jpg" alt="mobile bookkeeping Ormeau, Yatala, Coomera, Eagleby and Beenleigh, South Brisbane, Australia " />

Tracking the flow of money in and out of your business occurs through the recording of each transaction by the person responsible for your bookkeeping. <a href=" http://ormeaubookkeeping.com.au/contact-us/"target="_blank"title="contact Ormeau, Yatala, Coomera, Eagleby and Beenleigh, South Brisbane, Mobile Bookeeping Services">Contact us NOW and we’ll help you determine whether there is more money flowing in, than is flowing out of your business.

In basic terms there are four sources of income, and four reasons why money flows out of your business.

Depending on your business, income is generated through the sale of goods and services, or the sale of business assets. Other sources of income can be through loans to the business, either from yourself, or money that you have borrowed from relatives, friends, or formal channels such as financial institutions.

There are very few businesses that incur no expenses to generate the income. Thus money flowing out of your business will be to pay bills for overheads, such as power, telecommunications, rent, wages etc.

Other expenses include buying or replacing assets to run the business. Then there’s your remuneration, as drawings etc, and also your business may lend money to others.

The recording of each transaction by your bookkeeper is critical to protect all parties concerned. Each transaction should be supported by the appropriate documents. When the Australian Taxation Office decides to audit your business, they will often need to see all your supporting documentation.

Your bookkeeper needs to ensure that all the documentation is filed in such a way that it can be easily traced. Each transaction recorded in the bookkeeping system should be supported by the relevant documentation also.

Consider the day that a piece of equipment fails, and you wonder if it’s still under warranty. Your bookkeeper should be able to tell you when you bought the equipment, how you paid for it, and also be able to located the documentation relevant to that equipment.

A logical and ordered filing system is just as important as the balance sheet or P & L reports for your business. For more information or a free appraisal of your bookkeeping system, <a href=" http://ormeaubookkeeping.com.au/contact-us/"target="_blank"title="contact Ormeau, Yatala, Coomera, Eagleby and Beenleigh, South Brisbane, Australia Mobile Bookeeping Services">contact one of our South Brisbane bookkeeping service NOW, and we’ll help you determine whether there is more money flowing in, than is flowing out of your business.

<img class="left"src="http://robinabookkeeping.com.au/robina-bookeeping/australian-taxation-office-statement.jpg" alt="Bookkeeping – End of Financial Year"title="Bookkeeping – End of Financial Year" />Before you realise, Easter will be upon us, then the end of the financial year

A client asked us today whether he should make the final balloon payment on his earthmoving equipment, even though he still has 12 more months to pay it off

We’re not registered tax agents and can’t advise whether he’s better paying the lump sum before the end of this financial year, or whether he should carry the payments over into next year.

If your bookwork’s not upto date, how do you make an informed decision about your tax liabilities?

If you don’t have your bookwork upto date, or if bookkeeping is the last thing on your mind right now, then how can you make an informed decision about your tax liabilities for the financial year ending 30 June 2009?

How do you know if you should make a lump sum payment on your vehicle lease this year? If you ask your accountant, you’ll most likely be told that without seeing any upto date figures for this financial year, your accountant cannot give you an informed answer

To prepare for the end of the financial year is not as difficult or as daunting as the task may appear. In fact, the ATO offer you encouragement to get your financials upto date with the quarterly BAS requirements.

Look no further, stress no more, simply contact us, as we provide an outsourced bookkeeping service. Our mobile bookkeepers can come to your premises, work on your computer, or pick up the paperwork and take it away to return with neatly filed and documented set of accounts ready for you to take to your accountant

With the BAS (Business Activity Statement) due on 3 March 2009, if you don’t want to pay the ATO more than is absolutely necessary, then contact our Ormeau mobile bookeeping service right now so we can help you out

The December Quarter 2009 (Q2) Business Activity Statement is due on 3 MARCH 2009

If you’re hoping to get an extension, you’ve got buckleys as the Australian Taxation Office have already given you an extension from 28 January to 3 March.

If your chart of accounts is not set up correctly, your BAS Figures may be distorted

Really, you’ve got an extension on the extension, since the ATO normally ask for the BAS lodgment to be submitted by 28 February, which this year falls on a Saturday.

The next business day would be 2 March 2009. However, in Western Australia there’s a public holiday on 2 March, so the ATO have extended the December Quarter 2009 (Q2) Business Activity Statement due date to 3 MARCH 2009

Do you need help with your BAS lodgment?
We get many frantic calls from clients who are struggling to complete their Business Activity Statements. The few weeks leading up to the BAS deadline can be very hectic for freelance bookkeepers
<img class="right"src="http://yo2go.com/images/wayne-swan-brisbane-times.jpg" title="help with BAS"alt="wayne-swan-brisbane-times" />

Our mobile bookkeepers can come to your premises, or even better, you can simply send us your data files and we can review your work, run a few reports and make sure that you’ve got all the figures in the correct allocations.

Business Activity Statements can appear daunting. What many small business owners do not realise is that the completion of the BAS form is not where the problems can be. Where the challenge may in fact be, is the fact that the data entry is not correct.

Maybe you’ve been down to your local computer supply store and bought your accounting software at a Hardly Normal Sale. You’ve rushed home and wacked the CD into your PC and then followed the prompts thinking that everything will fall rapidly into place

If your chart of accounts is not set up correctly, or the allocations are incorrect, you could find yourself believing that you owe Wayne Swan far more than you need. And rest assured, our illustrious Treasurer will soon find a way of spending other people’s money.

If you need help with your BAS, and don’t want to pay the ATO more than is absolutely necessary, then contact our Ormeau mobile book-keeping service right now so we can help you out

Often our MYOB and QuickBooks bookkeeping clients around Yatala, Ormeau, Pimpama, and Beenleigh are so busy involved working in their business that they tell us, their bookkeepers, that they’ve no time to work on their business.

Here’s a simple habit that you can form and stick to everyday. Then watch the results. All you need is five minutes.

Can you find 5 minutes to at least one of these things to expand your business?

Send a quick note / email to a prospect, colleague, friend or acquaintance.

Invite a friend or business associate to lunch for next week – even if they cannot go, spend a few minutes “just catching up.”

Scan the local paper and jot a little note of “Congrats” to someone you recognize.

Have a look at your diary. Think of another opportunity to develop with a client you saw yesterday, then follow up with your client.

Call someone whose project you’ll be starting in the next two weeks and tell them you’re looking forward to seeing or working with them again. Ask how they’ve been.

Note that as the date falls on a long weekend in some states, the lodgement and payment deadline has been extended to 3 March 2009 Australia Wide)

With Christmas out of the way, and many small businesses returning to work, it’s time to get all your paperwork together and get it to your bookkeeper or outsourced bookkeeping service- to report on the 2nd quarter (1 September to 31 December 2008) to get your BAS lodged on time. Contact us here for details

Maybe the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) does have a heart, after all. Rather than asking for lodgements on 28 January, they automatically give everyone an extension to the BAS lodgements to 28 February.

However, don’t be fooled by their grace, because there is NO WAY that they’ll consider granting an extension after that date. So you need to ensure that you have your Business Activity Statement lodged by 28 February 2009

Business Activity Statement (BAS) due on 28 October 2008 - small business owners contact us from Balcatta, Balga, Carine, Gwelup, Hamersley, Karrinyup, Nollamara, Stirling and Westminster wanting to know how to complete their BAS lodgment

<img class="left"src="http://www.yo2go.com/images/BAS-front.jpg" alt="How To Complete Your BAS from MYOB" />It’s BAS season again, and the phone’s running red-hot.

It’s not unusual for a small business owner to contact us from the areas around Ormeau, Yatala, Coomera, Eagleby and Beenleigh wanting to know how to complete their Business Activity Statement, that’s due on 28 October 2008.

I just need some help with Payroll, and BAS lodgements

Generally the problem is not with the BAS itself, rather it’s with the allocations and the data entry. So often we’ve seen clients who want to save money on bookeeping fees, by them trying to do the bookwork themselves.

Investing a few dollars in a good bookeeper once a quarter to help with your BAS can save you money

By not fully understanding the process, there’s a danger that your figures are incorrect, and you are declaring a higher Tax liability than is correct, and so you will be out of pocket.

Smart business owners understand that by investing a few dollars in a good book-keeper once a quarter, they actually end up ahead, compared to trying to sort out the bookwork themselves.

“I’m quite proficient with MYOB, but I just need some help with Payroll, and BAS lodgements, can you help?”

If you need help calculating your BAS from MYOB, then contact us HERE, sometimes it can be simply explained over the phone.

A good bookkeeping system is recording Expenses and Income in appropriate accounts

As mobile bookkeepers servicing Ormeau, Yatala, Coomera, Eagleby and Beenleigh, we are often asked how we can be of benefit to the small business owner.

Bookkeeping can be seen as an unnecessay expense by some business owners, whereas for others, it’s seen an essential part of their business.

Very often it comes down to a lack of understanding, or full appreciation of what bookkeepers actually do, and how bookeeping benefits businesses in Ormeau, Yatala, Coomera, Eagleby and Beenleigh.

The basic building block to a good bookkeeping system is recording expenses and income in appropriate accounts.

The tricky part is to make certain that whoever enters the data understands the true nature of each and every expense, and is able to put it in its right place. <a href="http://ormeaubookkeeping.com.au/contact-us/"title="Need help with your bookkeeping- Ask us how">Contact us NOW for a free appraisal of your bookkeeping system

Data Entry
Businesses need to have up to date and accurate account of their business income and expenses. While concentrating on their core business, financial record keeping can easily become overwhelming for many business owners. Out of date or poorly prepared records can actually hinder their business.

Professionally prepared financial records provide powerful information tools that enable better management of the business.

<img class="right"src="http://robinabookkeeping.com.au/robina-bookeeping/booth_finger_festival_238496_l.jpg" alt="booth_finger_festival_238496_l.jpg"title="mobile bookkeepers servicing Ormeau, Yatala, Coomera, Eagleby and Beenleigh" />These records and reports enhance any interactions with accountants and financial institutions, so the business owner has an accurate picture of the financial status to make better business decisions.

In any business, money comes in, and money goes out. Generally money that comes in (Income) is through sales of goods, products, or through providing a service (i.e being paid to do a job such as bookkeeping, for a client).

Need help with your bookkeeping?
<a href="http://ormeaubookkeeping.com.au/contact-us/"title="Need help with your bookkeeping- Ask us how">Contact us NOW for a free appraisal of your bookkeeping system

Other money that may come in to a business could be through loans from the business owner (private funds), the Bank or financial institution, Grants or capital injection from other sources.

Money that comes out of the business can fall into a number of different categories also. This money may be classed as expenses, including purchasing raw materials / components/ products all involved in making up the goods being sold. Other reasons that money comes out of the business maybe for personal use (Drawings), wages or to pay back loans.

This is where a basic understanding of accounting is very important, and it is the where the skills of bookkeeping are truly recognised.

Not all businesses are the same, and where an item may be seen as an expense in one business (i.e cutlery for a catering business) would more likely be a personal expense in another business (i.e an electrician buying cutlery would most unlikely be using that cutlery to further his business).

When the tax office (ATO) comes to audit a business, claims for items that are not business related can result in heavy fines. A recent example has been with the Australian Taxation Office scrutinising owners of investment properties that have been making purchases for materials used in their family home and claiming them as a deduction for their investment properties.

Clients will often fill their work vehicle with fuel at a service station, and then buy confectionary, bread, milk and other grocery items at the same time, all in a single transaction. When that transaction is recorded, the bookkeeper must ensure that only the fuel component of the transaction is recorded as a business expense, and the other items would be reflected as a personal expense, (i.e Drawings).

Incorrect data entry would not only misrepresent the total spent on fuel at the end of the reporting period (which would affect calculations in costings and future budgeting) but it would also affect the total “Cost of Goods Sold” and “Profit and Loss” figures.
